It can be easy to forget the carefree spirit and curiosity of our youth as we get older, but embracing your inner child can offer so many different benefits for seniors, both mentally and physically. When we tap into that playful, imaginative side, we promote joy and laughter, which are essential for your emotional well-being. Lighthearted activities like playing games or watching a favourite childhood movie can help reduce stress, boost your mood, an create a sense of connection to a happy memory.
At MLP Residence, the drama club plays a key role in helping residents reconnect with their inner child. We come together every week, starting with an icebreaker game to get to know each other which helps us feel more comfortable. While engaging in role-play games residents are encouraged to express themselves in a creative, non-judgmental, fun environment. These short, fun performances often bring lots of smiles, laughter, and even a little bit of pride in the work they've completed. This is great because it helps to battle any feelings of loneliness while also enhancing their emotional health.
Staying in touch with our inner child also fosters creativity and cognitive flexibility, which are crucial for brain health as we age. It encourages problem-solving in a fresh and outside-of-the-box way, keeping the mind sharp, active, and stimulated.
At MLP Residence, the drama club brings residents together, helping all who join in to embrace their playful side, build confidence, and share joyful moments together. Embracing your inner child here isn't just about reliving the past—it's about enhancing the present and ensuring a vibrant, joyful future that we can all look forward to!
