If you have your licence and can get around on your own, consider yourself blessed to have that ability. Many seniors living either at home or in assisted living no longer carry a driver’s license for various reasons, from health issues to simply not feeling safe or confident enough to operate a vehicle. That leaves our seniors with the ultimate question. How are they going to get around to doing all the things they know and love? Not all seniors have close family who can take them out and do things like getting new body wash when they run out or finding some snacks for those late-night movie watchers.

For people in the County, getting a taxi for quick service can be challenging, and there aren’t many taxi businesses around here anymore. Not too long ago, Quinte Transit introduced an accessible public transportation service for all residents of Prince Edward County. The County Transit provides a fixed route or on-demand door-to-bus stop service. The drivers are always pleasant, and they assist people on and off the bus to ensure their safety at every stop.

The fixed route service goes from Picton to Belleville and back to Picton with multiple timed and non-timed stops along the route.

The On-demand service is offered in many areas, including Consecon, Wellington, Carrying Place, Rossmore, and Rednersville. People can book on-demand services for a variety of things, such as Medical Appointments, Employment, Education, Shopping, Visiting, Social Events, and Recreation; however, persons with disabilities and seniors with medical appointments receive top booking priorities. To use this service, you must call and book ahead of time.
