MLP Residence continues to monitor the ongoing situation regarding COVID-19 closely. We are
committed to ensuring the wellbeing of our residents, our team and the operations, while continuing
to provide the award-winning retirement and assisted living options and services.
MLP Residence’s management convenes almost daily as the situation continues to evolve, to ensure
we are prepared to adapt appropriately. With any new disease we must manage the risks as the
information becomes available to us. The uncertainty of the changing situation can be distressing, and
it is easy to be swept up in the fears of what might happen. MLP Residence’s Pandemic Preparedness Plan has been activated, and as we modify our standard operating procedures to effectively cope with the threats of COVID19, below are some of the key
measures that we have implemented to protect our Community:
- Refresher training of Team Members in methods to protect residents and themselves from respiratory illnesses.
- Tracking employee personal international travel and requiring staff to stay home for 14 days.
- Implementing a 14-day home quarantine if there is a reasonable risk that a Team Member may have COVID-19.
- Assessing stock of PPE and supplies required to ensure protection of our Team Members and continuity of our operations.
- Visitors – MLP has, for the protection of our Community, closed visitation and access to our Residence for ALL non-essential visits, till further notice.
- UPC’s – In order to protect the health integrity of all who proudly call MLP their “home” and our amazing Team Members, we have made a decision to halt all outside agencies from sending their care workers to our building. This has been necessitated
as we do not have control over the interactions that outside workers have along with the logistics of their travels. We shall endeavour to provide these services, at a cost, to those affected by this decision by our in-home screened Team Members.
- Construction – all activities with respect to our second-floor renovations and construction have been halted with immediate effect. No construction workers or contractors are allowed to access the buildings at MLP (save in dire emergency). Workers may only work in one suite (Suite 135), as it has an independent access from the outside.
For your safety and well-being, as well as those around you, may we suggest:
- Frequent hand washing with soap and hot water, for at least 20 seconds.
- Cough into your elbow or a tissue.
- Be sensitive when greeting people as to whether a handshake is appropriate or a simple verbal greeting.
- If you feel sick (feverish, coughing, or difficulty in breathing)– please stay in your suite and notify one of our Care Staff immediately.
- Be sensitive in your interaction with other residents and staff so to reduce risk – a wave or verbal greeting; a smile or nod; only handshake if comfortable to both parties.
I want to assure you that the Management and Team here at MLP Residence, are aware of the anxiety this new illness is provoking. In order to assess these risks, we are continually in touch with federal, provincial and municipal levels of government and other support agencies such as Ontario Public Health, RHRA, Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility and ORCA. As these advisories change, we are committed to adjust our response and operations, accordingly.
I want to thank you for helping us and all those that proudly call MLP Residence their home and workplace.
