Advantages of Social Media for Seniors

Feeling lonely and out of touch with your family lately? Sometimes we get stuck in our old ways and aren’t open to learning new things; especially when it comes to technology. If your tired of feeling out of the loop, try coming together in a new way. Many families are busy with children and work and all the hustle and bustle of life as a parent, that they just don’t have the time to visit regularly all the time. Social media can be a great way to keep up with your family from a distance.

If you are too busy to pop in for regular visits, try bringing them a smart device, like a tablet or smart phone and sign them up for a social media account like Facebook. Make sure they’re following you and anyone else they’d like to see updates on, so they get the notifications. Then all you need to do is take a minute of your day to post a photo of the kids or a selfie of something fun you’re doing. It can be very reassuring to our elderly parents and grandparents to see us living a good life.

Note: This is not an alternative to visiting with family, as nothing can replace the love and warmth one feels while hugging their family members. This is something for the in between so they can stay up to date with the family.
