the staffing requirements for the
Direct Care department.

Strict operating guidelines and
detailed reporting formats ensure
that the level of service outlined
in our Service Plan for each
resident is well met. Our staff is
trained to dispense medication in
accordance with doctors' orders.
Vitals, such as blood sugar, blood
pressure, weight charts, etc. are
also maintained in detailed resident
files.

Statistics indicate that
approximately one-half of the
children in the North America today
are cared for by someone other than
an immediate family member during
some portion of each day. In
two-thirds of two-parent homes, both
parents work.

Recently,
in-depth studies in the United
States have been released outlining
the benefits yielded from
environments promoting seniors'
interaction with young children. The
findings detail increased physical
and emotional stability for the
senior adult, with noticeable
enhancement to the sensorial and
emotional health and stability for
young children.

The
intergenerational facility by MLP
envisages a coherent senior
retirement and residential living
environment linked with a formal
educational facility such as early childhood learning centres.
This genus of institution shall be
one of the first such exchanges in
Ontario, and possibly Canada.

The
expansion plans include the addition
of a new wing housing 14 suites. MLP Residence will remain the
largest and only full service
retirement housing provider in the
County of Prince Edward.

To
be able to evolve a product which is
consistent with the advancements in
the geriatric industry, and to be
proactively engaged in meeting the
changing needs of the elders within
our community, it is necessary to
study the physiological and
psychological trends of our dynamic
society.

The
project will integrate multi-use
design games lounge, restaurant
style dining room, various indoor
lounging areas, activity centers and
outdoor courtyards. The mixed-use facility
will allow children and seniors to
get together to read stories, play
games, do crafts and share special
friendships during scheduled visits,
enhancing quality of life for both
seniors and children.

The
framework shall encompass formal association with an Early Learning Centre
daycare facility upon completion of
Phase II of the program.
